Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions presents first repair kit for electric motor for the Hyundai Ioniq
2024-09-06 | Frankfurt
- The first E-Axle RepSystem-M from Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions enables motor repairs in e-axles of the Hyundai Ioniq
- Garages no longer have to necessarily replace the entire motor or the entire axle
- The kit contains all of the parts needed to replace the bearings professionally – sealant included
With the E-Axle RepSystem-M, Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions is the first and currently only supplier on the market to present a motor repair kit at Automechanika Frankfurt for the e-axle in the first-generation Hyundai Ioniq AE-EV, 2016-2019 model, EM09 motor with 88 kW output. With the launch of this kit, it is now possible to replace damaged bearings in the e-axle motor, instead of having to replace the entire motor or e-axle, as was previously the case. The repair, which is only slightly more time-intensive than a full axle replacement, represents a euro cost saving for car owners in the four-digit range.
According to Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions, well over half of all electric motor defects in the electric drivetrain are attributable to defective bearings, which cause audible and palpable oscillations and lead to noise, vibrations, and harsh motor performance (NVH). Should such a situation transpire in a first-generation Hyundai Ioniq, the new E-Axle RepSystem-M contains all the parts that are needed to carry out a professional repair.
Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions also supplies a rotary shaft seal, O-rings for the rotor shafts, flat seals, and sealing paste for the housing, in addition to the actual rotor bearings. A detailed, yet easy-to-understand, step-by-step repair manual is also available, including the tightening torques required for safe installation. Further support in terms of training sessions and webinars is currently in preparation.
Repair solutions for electric transmissions and motors
44,000 first-generation Hyundai Ioniq vehicles are currently registered in Europe and span an age range of five to eight years. “We are continually expanding our e-mobility portfolio to meet the requirements of the growing electric vehicle fleet. With the E-Axle RepSystem-M, we are enabling the repair of electric motors and thus expanding our range of products to include a key new category for the professional repair of e-axles,” says Maik Evers, Head of Product Management Powertrain Systems at Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions. This does not mark the only addition to the range, however: The program previously covered transmission repairs in the Volkswagen e-Golf in the form of the E-Axle RepSystem-G, which was launched at Automechanika 2022. This transmission solution is now also available for the first-generation Hyundai Ioniq at Automechanika 2024. In addition, further kits for e-axles from other manufacturers will be added this year.
With these repair solutions, the Schaeffler division is providing a central component for the holistic mobility transition. “We at Schaeffler are developers and producers of OE transmissions, electric motors, and power electronics. This production knowledge combined with our understanding of the market enables us, as experts, to develop innovative and market-oriented solutions,” adds Stephan Niese, Director Global Product Management ePowertrain Vehicle Lifetime Solutions.
In time for Automechanika, the E-Axle RepSystem-M will be available. All important information for distributors and garages can be found in Schaeffler’s electronic catalogs and has already been delivered to TecDoc. The Schaeffler division, together with its partner GEDORE Automotive, has also developed the “E-Drive Stator Lift” – a special tool for carrying out professional repairs to electric motors which allows contact-free disassembly and assembly of the rotor and stator and is currently at the pre-production stage.
